Strong start to summer at Wallingford
The 2024 summer racing season arrived on the May Bank Holiday weekend with Wallingford Regatta, a packed day of racing with 27 Thames entries and many athletes doubling up in the morning and afternoon divisions.
There were some outstanding performances, with the men’s and women’s 1st 8s chasing Leander Club hard in challenge 8s and both finishing second. The women’s challenge 8 final featured no fewer than four Thames crews, showcasing the squad’s strength in depth.
The women’s club 8 won their final in style, and there were second and third place finishes in most of the other events contested. Overall, it was a solid start to the summer season with encouraging signs of early speed.
