Thames welcomes Jeroen van der Kall as assistant coach

Thames Rowing Club is delighted to announce that Jeroen van der Kall has been appointed as assistant coach for the 2019/20 season.

Jeroen will support head coach Sander Smulders in a new-look coaching team, following the departure of men’s head coach Ben Lewis at the end of 2018/19 after six successful years.

Jeroen joins the club from RSVU Okeanos in Amsterdam, where he has coached since 2013, most recently focusing on the freshman programme. Notable coaching achievements include coaching the Dutch M1x at the FISU world championships in 2016.

He brings extensive experience as a coach not only in rowing but also cycling and personal training, and holds degrees in human movement science.

Jeroen joins Thames to help build on the results of the 2018/19 season, in which the club won Aspirational Club 8s at Henley Women’s Regatta, reached the final of the Thames Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta for a third year in a row, and won the Vernon Trophy at the Head of the River Race.

Sander and Jeroen will together lead a coaching team of experienced volunteers aiming to foster continued growth and success across the entire club and build on the legacy of recent seasons.

The club would like once again to thank Ben Lewis for his work at the club and wish him the best for the future.
