Junior Update: Pairs Head and Weybridge Silver Sculls

In the past month the TRC junior squad, supported by London Youth Rowing, has competed at two events.

The Pairs Head took place on home water and allowed us to test some early season combinations. Our junior women’s double of Chloe Knight and Charlie Ball came a very respectable third, with our second boat of Sarah Riches and Gabby Munyard coming in tenth. On the boys’ side Alex Kelly and Seb Tyrie managed sixth place in the double, while Chris Bryan and Fred Tyrie came home in sixteenth in the pair.

We took a large contingent of small boats from J15 to J18 to Weybridge Silver Sculls on 17 October. Results proved very promising against competition from the lower Thames region.

Chloe Knight was the star of the day, winning women’s J17 and J18 singles, clocking the fastest women’s time of the day in the process and taking home the Bonnie Bird trophy. Gabby Munyard picked up the women’s IM3 win in the final division of the day, and came second in J17 earlier in the day. As a squad we achieved 19 top five finishes and 24 top 10 finishes. A successful day that demonstrated good progress early in season.

The squad is dividing slightly over the next few weeks with GB triallists preparing for the early ID trial in Boston mid-November and the remaining members competing at the Fours Head of the River next weekend.
