Pennants at Scullers Head
After a week of breezy weather the Thames athletes competing in Scullers Head at the start of December were pleased to find that the wind died down and the temperature rose (a bit), making conditions practically perfect.
The race this year was run on the flood tide, from the Mile Post to Chiswick Staithe. Overall times are a bit tricky to work out due to the changing speed of the flood tide, but all Thames scullers acquitted themselves extremely well.
We picked up two pennants. Meghann Jackson won W Elite and was also the fastest woman, succeeding clubmate Suzi Perry who was the fastest woman in 2016. Alex Styles won W Lwt (Senior).
Thames athletes also finished second in several categories. Pippa Whittaker was second behind Meg in W Elite, Alex Morris second in M Lwt (Elite), Alex Waller second in M Lwt (Senior), Zack Youell second in M U23, Jo Harris second in W MasB, Tom Portsmouth second in M (Club), and John McConnell second in M Mas (Fresher, E).
It’s now just two weeks until the Remenham Challenge and all squads are looking strong in the final run-up to Christmas.
