Pairs Head 2017

Alex and Ian

The 2017/18 season finally kicked off on 14 October with Pairs Head. Blessed with warm weather and a nice tailwind it was a quick race and a positive start to the year for Thames.

Our fastest crew was Alex and Ian, racing in intermediate 2x. They missed their category win by less than 0.5 seconds to Tideway Scullers, but finished a very strong fourth overall, only 5 seconds behind the winners. Tom and Chris in champ 2x also finished in the top 10 overall.

Three Thames crews finished in the top 10 in champ 2-. bringing the number of Thames boats in the top 25 finishers to an impressive five. Of the men’s pairs, Ant and Nick were quickest, finishing third in their category and 16th overall.

The women also had a good day. Sarah and Lowenna, racing in women’s champ 2-, were third in their category. Natalie and Suzi in women’s champ 2x were third, and 94th overall, while Alex and Meghann were fourth in the category.

The masters had several boats racing too. In the women’s B/C 2x club category Jess and Jo took the category win by 2.5 seconds, despite winding down a little too early and having to restart for a sprint finish. Claude and Andrew were second in F/G 2x club.
