Marlow Regatta 2017

Marlow Regatta is the last tune up for the men’s crews before they make the final push for Henley Royal Regatta. After an excellent week of training on the Tideway, we were confident ahead of the regatta.

Men’s 3rd 8
The men’s 3rd 8 kicked off the day in the time trial in Tier 2. Finishing fourth after a hard race the crew geared up for a tough final. They got dropped off the start but kept their heads cool and finished a very strong third in a time of 5:53.58.

Men’s 4-
The Wyfold four knew it was going to be hard just to get in the final of Championship 4-. They made it happen in the time trial, finishing fourth but with the first five crews separated by only a second. In the final they had a tight race and finished fifth in striking distance of all the top Wyfold fours.

Men’s 4+
The Britannia 4+ qualified for the final of Championship 4+ through a convincing fourth place in the time trial and had high hopes for the final. In the final they went for it from the start, but came up a little short finishing as the second-fastest club crew behind Molesey.

Men’s 1st 8
In Championship 8+ a flat-out time trial was also needed just to get into the final. With a seven-boat final our crew went out hard. They kept up with Oxford Brookes and University of London’s Temple crews and Brookes’ Ladies 8 until the 750m mark. A solid middle pace was not good enough to keep up with these top university crews. Still with a time of 5:42.12 it was a good step towards HRR.

Men’s 4th 8
In Club 8 the 4th 8 had a good shot for a top position. After a solid time trial in which they qualified in second place they knew they had to throw everything at the final. They went out solid but Royal Chester and Nottingham University proved to be just a little better, giving Thames a very respectable 3rd place.

Elite Lightweight 1x
Philip had a hard brave race in this tough event, earning a solid fifth place. He is stepping up every race and is closing the gap steadily with opponents who have been in the single a long time.
