Over 20 Thames crews raced at the Metropolitan Regatta on both Saturday and Sunday, with four medals won on top of a host of second and third places and encouraging performances aross the board.

Aimee and Megan were victorious in W2x Tier 2 on both days, Didi won W1x Tier 2 on Sunday after finishing second in Tier 3 on Saturday, and the Britannia 4+ won men’s championship 4+ on Sunday.

Second places included a close race for the men’s 1st 8 in men’s challenge 8s on Sunday. They finished second to St Paul’s consistently impressive crew in a tight final. The women’s championship 4x were also second, to Leander.

The men’s 4x managed to hold off Molesey for second in M4x Tier 2 on Sunday and Thames’s third M4- finished second in the final of M4- Tier 2.

Iona and Lowenna were third in women’s championship 2- on Sunday and the women’s 4- improved on their Saturday performance to come third in women’s championship 4- yesterday. In W4x Tier 2 the Thames crew also found better form on Sunday, finishing third in the final. There was also a third place for half of the women’s 8+, who doubled up into W4+ champ on Saturday.

Jamie was third in M1x Tier 2 on Sunday and Dan and Tom were third in M2x champ on Sunday.

The women’s 8 finished second in the B final of women’s challenge 8s on Sunday, making them the second club crew overall. Meanwhile the men’s 2nd 8 won their C final of men’s challenge 8s.

Away from Dorney Thames alumni were also racing. Huge congratulations to Vlad Saigau, who coxed our winning Thames Cup crew last year; yesterday he coxed Yale’s 1st varsity 8 to victory at the IRA National Championships. Fellow Thames Cup ’17 members Orlando Nixon won bronze for Yale’s 2nd varsity 8 and Tom Phelps was sixth in the varsity grand final for Brown, with Oscar Bird also racing in Brown’s 3rd varsity 8.

Meanwhile in Belgrade Tom Jeffery won world cup silver for GB in the men’s 8s, only a second behind Germany.
